We have not appointed a data protection officer because we are not legally required to do so. If you have questions about data protection, you can reach us at the address above.
2. Overview
InseratCheck offers two things: the analysis of vehicle listings and arranging an on-site vehicle inspection (“check”) at a partner workshop. The workshop carries out the check itself in its own name; it is your contracting party for this and is itself responsible for its own data processing. We process your data only to the extent necessary for these services, legal obligations or our legitimate interests.
3. Visiting the website and server log files
Our host IONOS SE (Elgendorfer Str. 57, 56410 Montabaur, Germany) stores technical information with every visit: IP address, date and time, page accessed, referrer, browser and operating system. This is necessary to provide the website securely and detect attacks (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The log files are deleted or anonymised after 7 days at the latest. A data processing agreement is in place with IONOS.
In addition, we use your IP address to check directly on our server whether you are accessing the website from Germany. This determines whether we show you the notice about free analyses for visitors from abroad and whether pasted listing texts are analysed free of charge (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The IP address is neither stored for this purpose nor passed on to third parties; the country assignment is based on publicly available data from the internet registries.
4. Listing analysis
When you enter the address of a listing for analysis, we retrieve the listing and evaluate the publicly stated vehicle data. We do not need any personal data from you for this. We store analysis results without any reference to you personally.
5. Paid analysis access (PayPal)
For paid analysis access, payment is made via PayPal (PayPal (Europe) S.à r.l. et Cie, S.C.A., 22-24 Boulevard Royal, L-2449 Luxembourg). You enter your payment details directly with PayPal; we only receive confirmation of the payment (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). PayPal’s privacy notice applies.
6. Requesting and booking a check
6.1 Which data
For an appointment request we collect: first and last name, email address, phone number (voluntary, if provided), postcode of the vehicle, preferred dates, vehicle data (make, model, year of manufacture, mileage), the address of the listing and your comments.
6.2 Purpose and legal basis
We use this data to find suitable workshops, forward your request, send you appointment proposals and handle the booking, rescheduling, cancellation or a withdrawal. The legal basis is the performance of the brokerage contract or of pre-contractual measures (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
6.3 Disclosure to workshops
While your request is open, the workshops near you that were asked see only the vehicle data, postcode, listing address, preferred dates and your comments. Only the workshop that confirms your appointment receives your name and contact details. That workshop processes the data under its own responsibility to carry out the check.
6.4 Payment via Stripe
You pay for the check directly to the workshop. Payment is processed by the payment service provider Stripe (Stripe Payments Europe, Ltd., 1 Grand Canal Street Lower, Dublin 2, Ireland). You enter your card details or other payment details directly with Stripe; neither we nor the workshop receive them. We receive from Stripe the confirmation of payment, the amount and a payment number so that we can confirm the booking and trigger refunds (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Stripe also processes data to prevent fraud and may transfer data to Stripe, Inc. in the USA, which is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Details: stripe.com/de/privacy.
6.5 Withdrawal and early start
If you request that the check begin before the withdrawal period ends, we store this declaration with its time. We store a withdrawal submitted via our form with the time of receipt and send you an acknowledgement of receipt. This serves as evidence towards you and the workshop (Art. 6(1)(b) and (c) GDPR).
6.6 No-show
If you do not attend a paid appointment, we record this. After two such cases, we may, after review, exclude your email address from further bookings for twelve months to protect our partner workshops from lost appointments (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can object to the record, stating your reasons.
7. Inspection report and photos
The workshop prepares the inspection report in our workshop portal. It contains the vehicle data, the inspection results, photos of the vehicle, the odometer, the vehicle identification number and, where applicable, the vehicle registration document, as well as your name and email address. We store the report and send it to you as a PDF by email. Please take care yourself whom you pass the report on to – it may contain data of the vehicle owner from the registration document.
8. Emails
We send you emails relating to your request and booking: acknowledgement of receipt, appointment proposals, payment request and confirmation, a reminder the day before the appointment, rescheduling, cancellation, withdrawal, refund and the inspection report. We only send advertising with your express consent. Emails are sent via the servers of our host IONOS.
9. Customer account
If you create an account, we store your email address, an encrypted password and your analyses or access plans to give you access (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). After registration we send you a link to confirm your email address. If the address is not confirmed within 30 days, we automatically delete the account together with the stored analyses (you will receive a reminder after 23 days). You can have your account deleted at any time.
10. Cookies and local storage
We only use technically necessary cookies and no analytics or advertising trackers:
- icu_session – keeps you signed in to your customer account (until you sign out, or for no more than 7 days)
- ic_free_count – counts the free analyses
- ic_access_until – expiry time of a paid access plan
- ic_banner_seen – remembers that a notice was closed (365 days)
The legal basis is Section 25(2) No. 2 TDDDG (German Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act) and, for subsequent processing, Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR.
11. Storage period
- Open requests that do not lead to a booking: deleted no later than 6 months after the request.
- Booked checks, payment and withdrawal records: 3 years from the end of the year (limitation period); documents relevant for tax purposes 8 or 10 years in accordance with statutory retention obligations (Section 147 AO, Section 14b UStG).
- Inspection reports and photos: the workshop keeps them as evidence of its service; we store them for the workshop in the workshop portal for as long as they are needed for this purpose. On request, we will delete your contact details in the report earlier.
- Booking block after a no-show: 12 months.

13. Your rights
You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18) and data portability (Art. 20). Where we process data on the basis of legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), you may object at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation (Art. 21 GDPR). You can withdraw any consent given at any time with effect for the future. To do so, write to info@inseratcheck.de.
You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, for example the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of Rhineland-Palatinate, Hintere Bleiche 34, 55116 Mainz, Germany.
14. Obligation to provide data
Without your name, email address, postcode and vehicle details, we cannot contact a workshop for you or arrange a check. All other information is voluntary. There is no automated decision-making or profiling; the order of the workshops is based solely on distance.
15. Changes
We will adapt this privacy policy if our services or the legal situation change. The version published here at any given time applies.
